{xtypo_dropcap}M{/xtypo_dropcap}onika Kruse together with producer Gregor Tresher has just (09/04/08) released her first solo album “Changes of Perception" on her record label Terminal M.

I remember Monika mainly as a Techno DJ and artist but with this album she opens her doors to different varieties of sounds which resulted in me dropping two of those album tracks in recent shows. MORGANA was played on Deeper Shades of House show #253 and got a lot of great feedback from listeners. To compliment the release of the album, you can now enjoy a video for MORGANA produced by Adam Cominskey.

It'd be boring to just post the links to the wallpapers so I give you a bit of background of how edition #1 came about.

Kathy - for those who still don't know, my wife and creative brain behind most artwork and images you see on deepershades.net and Deeper Shades Recordings - discovered wordle.net, a web app that creates pretty cool images based on text used in RSS feeds.
After playing around with it a bit, I posted my first result via my Twitter and my buddy @mika73 suggested it'd make a pretty cool wallpaper. I didn't wanna blow it up in size because it would be quite blurry so he hinted that I should just create different size images with a black background and copy the wordle image in the center of it. Simple and easy and the first sizes (1280x1024 and 1024x768) were completed. Another Twitter buddy @we5 sent me 2 more sizes (320x480 for the iPhone and 1440x900 for Macbook Pro's) after I posted the previous ones and here we are.

The first Deeper Shades of House wallpaper generated out of the text included in the podcast RSS in four different resolutions. These are completely free downloads for you, so get 'em, put 'em on your machines and send 'em to your friends who dig Deeper Shades of House as much as you do. :) ..

what fun we had on Friday, July 18th 2008.

Tony Watson (Mekanic.com - Project Sandro) was the only guest I decided to have this year at my monthly party at Moonshadows in Malibu and hands down this was the best night I've had in the 4 years I've been doing it ..

It was a beautiful night and the full moon had just passed by one day. The setting was loungy as usual .. but then:

A lot of drinks were consumed, a lot of asses were shaking and I have no idea how I took my Traktor Scratch, computer and harddrive apart at the end of the night (and I'll spare you details about the pain I had on the drive home - luckily I was not the driver who had to pull over :)

The music (as far as I can remember) was off the hook. I started out, then let Tony play for a few hours and we went back to back for the last hour and a half, covering all grounds from midtempo deepness to disco to rock (I threw some Pink Floyd and Zappa in) to deep house and all the way back.

I'm skipping August since I'm playing in Ecuador the weekend I would be at Moonshadows ..

More and more people from Johannesburg, Auckland Park, Pretoria, Durban and 44 other cities stopped by to check out the show 'Deeper Shades of House' or the label 'Deeper Shades Recordings'. Thank you to those who have also written me emails and very nice messages on MySpace and Facebook and joined my Deeper Shades of House Facebook group.

I figured why not say "hello South Africa", welcome to deepershades.net and thank you for listening. The plan is to spotlight more countries like this in the next few months.

April 13th 2008 . It was my birthday and long before us traveling to Germany, I found out that Quarion, Omar S., Robert Owens and Theo Parrish would be in my old hometown Hamburg, Germany for an event called Coke DJ Culture (sponsored by Coca Cola and obviously never considering what the name could imply in other countries :).

So, after a beautiful early evening on April 12th with me playing at the Beta Lounge (more about that when the archive is up) and a very yummy dinner, a bit of chilling out and having a bottle of champagne at midnight to toast my birthday at my main man Constantin's crib, it was time to get our groove on.

Many rumors were rotating about Theo going on at 1am, later on it was said he would go back to back with Omar S. around 3am. We decided to be on the safe side and got there around 1.20am to see a sign at the door of club 'Click': NO CAMERAS ALLOWED. Well.. since my beautiful wife Kathy wasn't born yesterday, the security would not find her camera and we were able to take a bunch of candid shots all night. You can see the picture gallery in the extended.

Once we entered, a dope sound system was playing whatever Quarion (Drumpoet Community - Switzerland) would feed it during his live set, using Ableton Live. He definitely had the crowd going and the whole set was very smooth and offered great transitions.

Around 2am Robert Owens took over and we didn't know if it was going to be a live PA or what. Turned out, he was mixing tunes (very well, I might add) and eventually singing on top of some classics like "Tears" and "Can You Feel It".

Roughly 45minutes later it was time to be beat DOWN. Theo Parrish took over and did what Theo Parrish does. A mix and blend of Detroit House, Disco, mad edits, some halftempo mixing into R&B joints and overall energy that went through my whole body. We didn't miss a beat and danced throughout his whole set. Many highlights but stuck in my head is Theo ravishing Peven Everett's 'I can't believe I loved her'.

My shirt was soaked, my hair felt I had just taken a shower and I needed a break. Kathy and I got a drink and chilled out in the foyer while Omar S. was continueing the Detroit Beatdown with proper Techno. Once I had dried off a bit we went back on the dancefloor just when Omar S. was reducing the speed back to House, and again dancing was the program. He killed the crowd when he dropped Theo's 'Synthetic Flemm' or a few of his own joints, like 'Just Ask The Lonely'. Time went by quickly and all three of them decided to go back to back to continue the night into the early morning. Around 7.15am my body was getting really tired and I was quite hungry so it was time to say goodbye and leave the club (anyone tell me how long it really went?)

One of the best birthdays I've had in a long time. Deep music all night long, breaking boundaries, no compromises and a crowd filled with true connaisseurs and fans. Plus I was surrounded by people I love, many of those I don't get to see as often as I would like. ... OH, What A Night.

Make sure you check the pictures in the extended. We did take some video but it was too dark and the sound is so distorted that we decided to trash them ..

I had to take a few pictures to file with my taxes so I figured, I let you all see where most of the 'magic' happens. Just got the mixer couple of weeks ago. Vestax R-1 .. Oh yes, I was skeptical myself. The last Vestax mixer didn't work out too well for me but this one.. OH OH OH > masterpiece .. it sounds soooo clean and the mixing is soooo smooth  ..

Big Fun. So much energy and memories in this song by Kevin Saunderson's project Inner City released on KMS / 10 Records / Virgin Records in 1988.

While checking out Discogs for the usual link for more info on the record, I came across this great review with a lot of inside by Alain Patrick.

This right here is House before it was called House. 1985 - MCA Records, Colonel Abrams was 'Trapped' and all over the Radio singing how he's confused. Anything but, I would say. And yes, if the gig's the bomb, I pull this song out every once in a while. Sweetness... btw. the Colonel never stopped being active in House Music. I have quite a few 12"s in my collection.

Juju & Jordash are two very talented Deep House producers whose hometurf you'd expect to be Detroit rather than the Netherlands.
Their new 'Time Slip EP' is dropping soon on the british Real Soon label. This will be their second outing on this imprint after the Blue Plates EP. I've been bangin' (if you can call it that with tracks ranging from 101 to 108bpm) both tracks of this upcoming EP during the earlier parts of my sets and each time I hear them, they're sending me somewhere else.

Now they're doing what many more Deep House producers need to do - they've introduced a video for the title track of the EP, directed and edited by Finnish clip director Gnowp Ants.
